The California Energy Commission has adopted new regulations affecting the energy efficiency of swimming pool filtration pumps as set forth in the California Code of Regulations (Title 20, Sections 1601 through 1608).

What this means to existing pool owners is that when replacing an existing pump the installer must use a two speed or variable speed pump and controller capable of switching the speeds.

The good news is that Sta-Rite has developed a new variable speed pump, the IntelliFlo VF-3050, with a self-contained control panel.  The energy consumption ranges from 25% to 90% less resulting in substantial savings.  Your investment will pay for itself in approximately two years or less!

•  Typical savings range from $324 to $1,356 per year.  Savings based on a comparison pump running between 3.6 and 12 hrs/day at the national average of $.15/kwh in a 20,000 gallon pool.  In areas with higher energy costs, savings can exceed $2000/year.

•  Plus, these intelligent pumps with built-in diagnostics detect the most common conditions for premature pump failure--loss of prime, overheating, freezing, and voltage irregularities--and automatically protect themselves.  A totally enclosed motor design provides added protection for long, trouble-free pump life.

Benefits of variable speed pumps:

Intelliflo® pumps are the quietest ever built. By operating at optimum speeds, along with a totally enclosed fan cooled fan (TEFC) motor design they provide near silent operation.

Permanent magnet motors produce far less heat and vibration than traditional induction motors. This results in not only less stress and wear on the pump components, but also on other equipment, which means you can expect a dramatically longer life for a greater return on your investment.

You can now add or change equipment and features without concern about pump performance or efficiency. Whether you add a solar system, water feature, or change your filter, with just the push of a button you can set the new, optimum speed to operate with the lowest energy use.

Variable speed pumps give you the ability to alter the effects of water features by just dialing up or down to add height to deck jets and fountains or adjust the flow of waterfalls.
